Sgraffito Workshop – Clay Beach Studio : The Sgraffito Workshop at Clay Beach Studio is a beginner-friendly, hands-on session that introduces participants to the sgraffito technique — a decorative pottery method where designs are carved through a coloured clay surface to reveal the clay beneath. This workshop focuses on surface design, pattern making, and creative expression rather than form-building. Duration: Each session runs for 3 hours. Workshop Objective: This workshop is designed for learning and guided creativity. Participants are supported to: - Understand the basics of the sgraffito technique - Learn how to apply coloured slip or underglaze - Carve designs, patterns, or illustrations using sgraffito tools - Explore line work, texture, and contrast on clay surfaces - Participants will create their clay piece from scratch and then apply the sgraffito technique to decorate it. This allows for creative freedom in both form and surface design. Designs may be minimal, detailed, abstract, or illustrative, depending on individual preference and comfort level. Materials & Inclusions: - 1kg of clay - Coloured slips / underglazes and carving tools - Aprons are provided - Instructor-led guidance throughout the session - Firing and glazing of the finished piece are included Finished Piece Pickup: Finished pieces will be ready for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks after the workshop, and participants will be notified once their work is ready. Private Session Policy: - Workshops may include mixed groups - Participants who prefer a private session may request one in advance, subject to availability and confirmation Important Notes: - Comfortable clothing is recommended - Fine detailing requires patience and steady hand movement - Variations in colour and finish are natural outcomes of the ceramic process Who This Workshop Is For: This workshop is ideal for beginners, first-time learners, illustrators, designers, art lovers, or anyone interested in exploring surface decoration on clay through the sgraffito technique.
